Rocks & Scholars

We bid farewell to our lovely hosts John & Lois at the Spire House B&B. Jen has been suffering from some mystery sinus issue, allergy to England and all its natural beauty or maybe a sinus infection. At any rate its not good, John & Lois were really helpful making recommendations for us as to what could fix her. Fun fact not only do John & Lois have amazing taste in furnishings (bulldogs & plaid) they are also the parents to identical twin boys. Twin Power!

On our way to the Cotswolds we made a stop at Avebury. Avebury is a 6,000 year old stone circle, think Stonehenge without all the people and keep-out ropes with a wider circle that cuts through a small village, and you have Avebury. When we visited there were more sheep than people. It was nice and quiet, but very aromatic. A lot of "creamy chocolate pie" avoiding was necessary.

They number the sheep here so you know what number to get to before you fall asleep.

England is so dog friendly. We love it! We've only spotted one pug. No French Bulldogs or Bulldogs at all. Terriers, Spaniels and Border Collies seem to be the most popular in the countryside. I'm hoping for some Bulldog spotting in the city. Long country walks are not their forte anyway, they prefer long comfy couches.

Thatch roofs are oddly interesting. Apparently they work well and also keep the chickens from getting out.

After Avebury we made a quick stop in Oxford with high hopes of seeing some rowers on the Thames. It was not to be. The campus is chock full of beautiful buildings. You could spend hours examining the details in each building. We wanted to beat rush hour traffic so our time spent there was short.

Quite a Crest-y Door

Our 18th century cottage in the Cotswold. So unbelievably cute. Not for people over six feet. Brian knocked himself to the ground three times within the first ten minutes of our arrival. The bedroom is vaulted so he was excited about that until he knocked himself in the head trying to exit the 5'11 doorway.

Some Chipping Campden cuteness to round out our day. We are off to explore more of the Cotwolds tomorrow after we ice Brian's head for a couple hours.
