We are off to England and we can barely contain our excitement. Jen and I have wanted to visit England since we were little. Disney may have had some influence here (thank you Bedknobs & Broomsticks and Mary Poppins) but so did Bond, James Bond and not to mention the pure magic that is Harry Potter, see what I did there? I'm not even going to list how many british TV shows we watch. But I've said this to Brian for years, if we could only get British channels I'd be a very happy person. Brian is excited about visiting the birthplace of Aston Martin, Austin Healey, Jaguar, Lotus... you get the picture. We'll see if we can leave the country without purchasing one (fingers crossed), Brian makes no promises. We will be making a couple stops to some car museums on our journey, and may peruse Aston Martin headquarters if we have time.
Here is our route. The solid line is our train ride from Heathrow to Bath. The dash lines are where Brian and his calm driving skills come in... which will be especially helpful on skinny roads.
Our first stop is in Bath for some Jane Austen history and general british quaintness. We'll grab a car after Bath and head for Port Isaac, the fictional home of our favorite doctor, Doc Martin, we'll probably really nerd out here... so you've been warned. Brian will also probably eat his weight in fish n' chips here (and in every other village we go to). Jen and I will be eating our weight in Cadbury. From Port Isaac its on to Salisbury where we will see the Stourhead Gardens (Pride & Prejudice fans will know this as the place in the most recent film where Darcy proposes in the pouring rain and Elizabeth shuts him down, poor Darcy!). After Salisbury its off to the Cotswolds for villages so cute our heads may explode. Once we have had more cute than we can be expected to handle, especially when its not in association with a Bulldog or Pug, we're off to London to round out our trip. We'll be stopping in Wimbledon on our way into the city to drop some of Gram off. We're really excited for this part of the trip because it will be her second Majors location and the half way mark for her Grand Slam, or as I like to call it the Gram Slam. We're not slamming her in case you are worried, we spread her very gingerly and in the most amazing spots we can find because she deserves it. After this Gram's next stops will be the U.S. Open & French Open, not sure which order yet, but we are excited for both. In London we will be doing the touristy bits, scoping out some of the locations from another one of our favorite shows, As Time Goes By, and taking advantage of the Harry Potter museum... more nerding out. Let the adventure begin!

Cheerio! Have a smashing time.

ReplyDeleteAhhh! I'm so jealous! You must take lots of Pride and Prejudice pictures for me. Maybe in honor of your trip I will watch the movie and think of how much fun you're having!
